Crisis On Infinite Earths Finale Completely Changes DC’s Arrowverse For The Better

The five-part Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event has come to a close, and in the wake of the finale, everything has changed for the DC superheroes and villains in the CW Universe. Luckily, it streamlines everything on the CW shows.

Warning: Spoilers for the final two parts of the Crisis on Infinite Earths below.

At the end of Part Four of the event–the Arrow episode–Oliver Queen, who is now The Spectre, battled the Anti-Monitor and saved the multiverse by sacrificing his own life. Although he stopped the Anti-Monitor from destroying all existence, what happened instead was that all the CW shows, the Arrowverse, now exist in on one Earth. Supergirl is on the same Earth as Flash who is on the same Earth as Black Lightning, and so on, and so on.

This is actually a pretty great move on the CW’s part, as there doesn’t need to be some sort of bizarre excuse for when they all team up for crossover events. And this is something creators of this television universe has had planned for quite some time.

“We knew from last year quite frankly, that we were going to merge and create Earth CW basically–but Earth Prime sounds better,” Marc Guggenheim explained at a press screening [via GameSpot’s sister site TV Guide]. “Even though in the comics Earth Prime is our Earth, I just personally liked the sound of Earth Prime. So all the CW shows will be on the same Earth–the CW superheroes.”

Of course, the finale of the series, the Legends of Tomorrow episode, pitted the heroes on this singular Earth against Anti-Monitor, who was not dead. They had to beat him one last time. The Arrowverse is now called Earth-Prime, as previously mentioned by Guggenheim. In the closing shots of the crossover event, we saw glimpses of other Earths–which still exist in the grand scheme of things–including the Earths that the DC Universe shows take place in: Swamp Thing, Doom Patrol, and Titans all take place on. Essentially, this is just a grand way to streamline all of the CW TV shows into one place, while keeping the DC Universe series and movie franchises in their own little pockets, and it only came at the cost of Oliver Queen’s life.

As far as the future goes, there’s more coming to the DC CW Universe, a new Superman and Lois Lane series was ordered by the network. The new show will featuring Tyler Hoechlin as Clark Kent and Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane, reprising their roles from the other CW shows.
