Marvel Releases First Black Widow Trailer – Watch It Here

Marvel has finally released the long-awaited first Black Widow trailer. Fans have been awaiting the upcoming standalone film, starring Scarlett Johansson, for years, and this is the general public’s first official look (Disney showed sneak peeks to fans during the D23 conference and at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year, but that footage never went wide).

The Black Widow trailer was posted by Marvel Studios’ official Twitter account (and on YouTube) in the early hours of the morning, and it spans a full two minutes. Watch it below:

“I used to have nothing. And then I got this job–this family. But nothing lasts forever,” Natasha Romanoff–AKA Black Widow–says as the trailer opens. Fans who saw Avengers: Endgame this year are well aware of that, as Johansson’s character met a grisly end in the conclusion to the 20+ film Infinity War Saga. (Fans should also recognize that line, as it’s actually from Endgame, not this movie.) Anyway, Natasha’s fate in Endgame makes it extra strange that she’s getting her standalone movie posthumously–a first for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which, to be fair, has made plenty of firsts over the last decade.

Obviously, Black Widow will take place before the events of Endgame, and David Harbour told IGN recently that it takes place after the events of Captain America: Civil War. Beyond Johansson, the cast also includes Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Harbour as Alexei (AKA Red Guardian), Rachel Weisz as Melina, and O-T Fagbenle as a character named Mason.

With its May 1 2020 release date, Black Widow will officially kick off the MCU’s Phase 4. If this trailer is anything to go by, it should prove to be a thrilling opening chapter in the next Marvel movie saga.

This story is developing–check back later for more updates.
